Tank Requirements

• Tank Size: Minimum 75 gallons (284 L) for a single adult; larger tanks (100+ gallons) preferred.
• Water Parameters:
  • Temperature: 80–86°F (27–30°C) – stability is key!
  • pH: 7.0–8.0 (slightly alkaline).
  • Hardness: Moderate to hard (8–20 dGH).
• Filtration: Fluval FX6 Canister Filter – handles heavy waste and maintains crystal-clear water.
• Habitat: Minimal decor to prevent aggression; use smooth river stones and PVC caves for occasional hiding.

Diet

• High-Protein Staples: Hikari Cichlid Gold or Omega One Cichlid Pellets for growth and color enhancement.
• Treats: Occasional live earthworms or freeze-dried shrimp (sparingly to avoid bloating).
• Avoid Overfeeding: Feed 1–2x daily; portion size = what they consume in 2 minutes.

Compatibility

• Solo Star: Best housed alone due to aggression.
• Risky Pairings: Only experienced keepers should attempt tank mates (e.g., large Plecos or Oscars in 150+ gallon tanks).
