As the largest Discus retailer in Canada, we’ve transformed from a local shop into a national hub for hobbyists, breeders, and aquascapers who demand excellence. Behind this success are three lifelong fishkeepers whose journeys flow as uniquely as the ecosystems they create:
Farhaad – A visionary raised in the heart of the aquarium trade. Farhaad has lived and breathed this industry since childhood, mastering the art of breeding and care long before he could drive. His early immersion in the business world gave him the grit to turn passion into purpose, laying the foundation for FinnyFriends’ reputation as a Discus dynasty.
Akshay – A fishkeeping legacy runs in his veins. Growing up surrounded by his family’s aquaculture farm overseas, Akshay’s childhood was spent among guppies, tetras, and goldfish. This deep-rooted connection to aquatic life fuels his expertise in sustainable breeding and his knack for curating hardy, vibrant stock for hobbyists nationwide.
Irshad – The hobbyist who turned his home into a masterpiece. What began as a small tank in his bedroom soon overflowed into an entire lobby-sized aquatic wonderland. Irshad’s relentless curiosity and hands-on experimentation with biotopes and filtration systems shaped FinnyFriends’ innovative approach to aquarium design.
By fate, these three crossed paths—united by a shared obsession for aquatic perfection. Together, they channeled decades of expertise into building FinnyFriends into Canada’s premier destination for discerning fishkeepers.
